Here’s a more natural, forum-style version that doesn’t sound like an SEO article:
Are Pinterest Backlinks Any Good for SEO in 2026?
I've seen Pinterest mentioned quite a bit when people talk about easy backlinks, so it's worth clearing up what you're actually getting from them.
Short answer: Pinterest backlinks are useful, but I wouldn't use Pinterest specifically for "link juice."
Most outbound Pinterest links are treated as nofollow, so creating 100 Pins pointing at your website isn't the same thing as getting 100 normal editorial backlinks from other websites. You shouldn't expect your rankings to suddenly jump because you started pinning your pages.
That doesn't make Pinterest useless for SEO, though.
Where Pinterest actually becomes useful
The biggest advantage is traffic and discovery.
Every Pin can point people directly to a page on your website, and Pinterest actually tracks "outbound clicks" as one of its core analytics metrics.
Pinterest also behaves much more like a search engine than a traditional social network. People actively search for things like:
- Home improvement ideas
- Recipes
- Graphic design
- Fashion
- Travel
- DIY projects
- Interior design
- Photography
- Tutorials and guides
A good Pin can continue getting discovered long after you publish it. Pins can also surface outside Pinterest through search engines, particularly for visual searches. That's where I think Pinterest becomes much more interesting from an SEO perspective.
Think of Pinterest as a traffic source, not a backlink source
Let's say you write an article called:
"10 Small Bathroom Wallpaper Ideas"
You could create several different images based around that article and publish each one as a Pin linking back to the original page.
Someone searches Pinterest for "small bathroom wallpaper ideas," discovers your Pin and clicks through to your website.
That's a real visitor.
And if your content gets discovered by bloggers, designers, journalists or other website owners, there's always the possibility that some of those people eventually link to your content themselves.
Those secondary links can be much more valuable than the original Pinterest backlink.
Don't just link everything to your homepage
This is another mistake I see people make.
If you create a Pin about a specific subject, send the visitor to the most relevant page on your website, not your homepage.
For example:
Pin: "How Much Does Interior Painting Cost?"
❌ example.com
✅ example.com/interior-painting-cost
Pinterest itself recommends making sure the destination page is clearly related to the Pin and that the link works properly.
So are Pinterest backlinks worth creating?
Yes — just not for the reason people normally think.
I wouldn't count a Pinterest link alongside a good editorial do-follow backlink from another website.
I'd look at Pinterest as another way of distributing your content:
Create content → Turn it into Pins → Rank/get discovered on Pinterest → Send visitors to your website → Build awareness → Potentially earn real links and mentions later.
If you have a website in a visual niche, Pinterest becomes even more interesting.
For things like interior design, home improvement, fashion, food, travel, photography and DIY, I'd absolutely experiment with it.
Just don't spend hours creating Pinterest backlinks because somebody told you that getting 500 Pinterest links will increase your domain authority.
Use Pinterest to get eyeballs on your content. The backlink is just a bonus.
Anyone here getting decent referral traffic from Pinterest in 2026? I'd be interested to hear what niches it's working well for.
